The Soil Colour Creative Center, established in 2009, is a common project of the association "In the sign of the circle", of the municipality of Heldenberg, and of the soil colour artist Irena Racek, supported by the Department of Rural Development of Lower Austria.

Using the Colours of the Earth teaches us a conscious and responsible treatment of soil in an artistic manner, and it facilitates the recognition of soil in many aspects of life. Soil is the material, on which we walk, build our houses and streets, in which our plants grow, which stores our water, filters it and renders it potable. Soil makes visible changes in natural and cultural history.

The artist, born in Slovakia, has been experimenting with natural colours for 30 years. In the course of archaeological excavations in Lower Austria, she curiously took up the trail of ancient painting techniques, and so she has gained her knowledge about natural colours out of soil pigments.

In her seminars, she conveys her knowledge about natural colours and ancient techniques to interested persons. The artist herself paints earthy mystical paintings, which often show motives from archaeology. In her studio, called the Passhaus, Irena Ráček offers various seminars and also provides for the respective material: Cave painting, painting on pottery panels or tree bark with natural colours, body painting, using clay and so on.
